Railway union demands immediate filling up of vacancies

Vadodara, March 16: The National Federation of Indian Railwaymen (NFIR) has demanded immediate filling up of vacancies in the lower grades and giving preference to locals and children of railway employees.

“All the existing two lakh vacancies, including that of 1.10 lakh technical supervisors, must be filled up immediately as it is linked with the safety of 1.17 crore passengers travelling by trains (daily)…Also the government should introduce a recruitment system where preference is given to locals and children of railway employees,” NIFR general secretary M Raghvaiah said.

Raghvaiah warned of agitation if the demand by the NFIR, which has nine lakh members, was not fulfilled.

He said the sixth pay commission had failed to meet the demands of gangmen, who face anomalies in their pay scales.
