Hyderabad, November 02: A Railway employee, who duped several job aspirants and contractors to a tune of Rs 6 lakh over a period of four years, was on Monday arrested by the city police.
The accused was reportedly using all the money he collected from victims to construct a house for his paramour, police said.
The accused, S Sainath (50), used to work as a railway station master at Jaggaiahpet in Krishna district.
During his tenure then, he reportedly was involved in some financial irregularities and was suspended for few days.
Later, he was reinstated and posted at the Latur railway station but Sainath did not join duty since then.
According to Gopalpuram police, Sainath was luring youth with jobs in railways and similarly contractors with railway works for the past four years and was collecting money from them.
He collected nearly Rs 6 lakh from several persons.
Police said Sainath collected Rs 70,000 from an engineering student of Miryalguda in Nalgonda district few months back promising him a job.
Similarly, he took another Rs 1.64 lakh from a contractor, Srinivas, assuring him an electrical contract.
Sainath did not provide the job nor the contract to the duo and was avoiding them since then. Today, Srinivas saw Sainath in the Secunderabad railway station and handed him over to Gopalpuram police.
During questioning, Sainath told police that he used all the money he collected from the victims to construct a house for his paramour in Jaggaiahpet.
