Hyderabad, June 11: The Railway police are all set to train their personnel to identify women and children being spirited away by train from Andhra Pradesh to various destinations by human traffickers to various destinations.
“We are focusing on this aspect and all our personnel will be trained to identify victims and rescue them,” deputy inspectorgeneral (DIG) of police (Railways) Bhavana Saxena told Express. She said the exercise to sensitise the Railway police had already been taken up in Vijayawada.
Saxena, who took charge of her assignment last month, visited Visakhapatnam railway station today and held meetings with railway officials. The DIG said CCTVs would be installed at the Visakhapatnam railway station within the next six months. During the meeting, Saxena also discussed various crimes, on board or at stations.
With regard to misbehaviour with women passengers, she said there was a proposal for more women police constables. At present, there are only nine women constables with the railway police in the State. Currently, trains have two armed personnel and the number could be increased to four, if required.
“During the last three months, incidents have come down due to the presence of our personnel on trains and at railway stations,” she said.
