Hyderabad, November 14: Himayat Sagar is a beautiful lake which is at a little distance away from the city. It was named after Himayat Ali Khan the youngest son of Mir Osman Ali Khan. Its construction was completed in 1927. The storage capacity of the reservoir is about 3.0 TMC.
This lake is a famous picnic spot. The dam of the Himayat Sahar is 2 ½ kilometers long and 20 feet wide. Both the sides of the road are deep. There is deep lake on side of the road and bushes on the other. Imagine the negligence and carelessness of the tourism department that there is no railing on the dam. Now the road has become the death trap for passers by.
Yesterday itself a boy and a girl riding a motor cycle drowned in the lake. According to the report they were proceeding towards Andhra Pradesh police academy when they fell down in the water after hitting the barrier wall of the lake.
It would be better for the people and tourists if either a railing or 3 feet wall is constructed on the Himayat Sagar dam.
