Rail Ministry needs to be depoliticised: Trivedi

Mumbai, January 19: Union Railways Minister Dinesh Trivedi on Thursday said there was a need to depoliticise his ministry and stressed upon the need for a national railway policy.

“We have to depoliticise the Indian Railways. We must have a policy similar to foreign and defence policies. We must have a national railway policy,” he said at an event here.

The policy should not change with the minister or government, he added. The Trinamool Congress leader also spoke about the pressures faced by a Railway Minister from fellow legislators.

“Constraints and pressures from politicians like me in the Parliament are always there. Everybody wants a new train everyday. Everybody wants a stoppage. So these pressures are there,” he said.

Stating that the country’s GDP will grow at a good rate, he said the world was looking towards India as the engine of growth.
