Rail budget ignored poor: Ponnala

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Ponnala Lakshmaiah today flayed the Centre for coming up with a budget that has totally ignored the common man.
Addressing the media at Gandhi Bhavan here on Wednesday, Lakshmaiah termed the 2014 Rail Budget presented by Railway Minister Sadanand Gowda as an “Elitist” one. He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of burdening the people of the country with 14 per cent hike in rail charges and 6 per cent of rail transport charges even before the Rail Budget was presented. He severely condemned the way the Centre was going to burden the people. The State Congress chief criticized that the BJP on coming to power at the Centre has ignored to allocate new rail projects to Telangana State. The Rail budget preferred to address the rich and business class by announcing introduction of a “Bullet Train” from Gujarat, the home State of the Prime Minister, he said. “With this, it is clear that the Centre’s discriminatory approach was only compounding the woes of the common people, who are awaiting some new proposals in their favor, Lakshmaiah alleged.
The TPCC chief also took exception to the Modi Government claiming that “Good Days” are ahead. The Centre was only resorting to target the people and development works will go on a snail pace, he said. The BJP which promised to boost Telangana with all support and cooperation failed to do anything, he observed. He sought to know why the Centre is least bothered of Telangana State with regard to new coach factory, modernization of Secunderabad Railway Station and non-allocation of new projects. The Government should give priority to the Telangana State, he added. (NSS)
