Madurai, September 06: The proposed three-day visit of Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi to Tamil Nadu is expected to boost the morale of the State Congress leaders and party cadres at the grass-root level. Keeping up his promise made during his maiden visit to Sivaganga for an election campaign on May 8 that he would come to Tamil Nadu to work with the youths of the state.
Rahul would interact with students, party workers and participate in various programmes at various cities in the State beginning from September 8, according to a top party functionary here today.
His visit would infuse confidence in the partys rank and file, particularly the Youth Congress, which was reeling under ‘groupism’ for decades, he said. Besides, Rahuls visit would also revitalize the Tamil Nadu Congress Committees much awaited dream of establishing ‘Kamaraj rule’ in the state, he added.
He said after Rahuls visit, the partys state leadership should take steps to sustain the momentum created by him and that would make the party self-reliant, keeping in mind not to rally behind the Dravidian parties all the time.
Rahul was expected to focus on the achievements of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre and its close ally, the DMK in Tamil Nadu. He would also review the membership enrolment campaign for the Youth Congress. Meanwhile, the party was gearing up to give a red-carpet welcome to the Congress star leader during his visit to the State.
