New Delhi, January 16: Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi would visit Madhya Pradesh from January 18 to launch a membership drive for Indian Youth Congress and inspire the youth to join the party in its 125th anniversary year.
During the two-day visit to the state, Mr Gandhi would visit Gwalior, Sagar, Jabalpur, Bhopal and Indore, Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee president Suresh Pachauri told UNI.
Mr Gandhi, a youth icon, would interact with students in Gwalior.
He would participate in the Youth Congress membership campaign. The Amethi MP would address a Pradesh Congress Committee meeting and Youth Congress leaders on January 19.
Mr Gandhis visit to Madhya Pradesh is part of his efforts to strengthen the party in the Hindi heartland. He has been concentrating in building the organisation, especially Indian Youth Congress by launching vigorous campaign for membership.
Leaders of the IYC are being selected after proper scrutiny and on the basis of leadership qualities displayed by the candidates.
The Congress General Secretary, whose visit to Bihar was postponed earlier on January 12, would now visit the state later this month. He would focus on strengthening the Youth Congress in the state as it is going to polls later this year. Earlier, his efforts to strengthen the Congress had worked in Uttar Pradesh where party won 21 seats in the last Lok Sabha elections.
