Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said his opponents might kill him like his grandmother Indira Gandhi and father Rajiv Gandhi. But he said he was not afraid to die.
“I saw my grandmother’s blood. I also saw the blood of her killers Beant Singh and Satwant Singh. I used to play with those who killed dadi (Indira Gandhi). I was angry with them for a long time after they killed my grandmother.
“I understand the pain of losing someone very close. My father (Rajiv Gandhi) too was killed… Anger over violence is natural but it only hurts common people. The BJP makes use of people’s anger.”
AICC General Secretary and party in-charge Gurudas Kamat, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and PCC President Dr Chandrabhan also attended the rally at Police line maidan.
Rahul said that he was very angry because his grandmother’s murder and said that it takes years to get rid of anger but it takes one minute to incite it. “I was very angry at my grandmother’s killers and it took a long time to get over this episode,” Rahul said.
“I have faced this twice, they killed my grandmother and my father and they might kill me too, but I am not afraid,” Rahul exhorted.
The Congress vice president accused political parties of inciting violence for political gains.
Referring to his Muzaffarnagar visit with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Rahul said communal violence in the area reminded him of his own story. “On my Muzaffarnagar visit I met Hindus and Muslims and it was a sad feeling. I saw the replica of mine, said Rahul.
