It has always been a topic of debate in media that Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi will be either made working president, vice president, secretary general or will get any bigger post in Congress. But the young Gandhi doesn’t seem to yearn for any top position. Although he is expected to play a major role in the revamp of the AICC, it is said that he wants a share in the decision-making process of the party and not a high-sounding post.
However Congress sources claim that “Rahul Gandhi is already the No. 2 in the Congress party and plays a pivotal role in taking decisions in the party.” Even the prime minister has said more than once that “Rahul Gandhi is the future leader of the nation”.
A major reshuffle is likely in the AICC. There are signs that Rahul Gandhi is going to bring in new faces in the AICC and get rid of some of the old faces. Only after he has been given the power to “hire and fire”, the natural successor would take up a befitting post in the party.
The young succsessor has a number of times rejected prime minister’s offer to become a part of the government as a Cabinet minister. By showing that he is not in a hurry to get key post Rahul Gandhi has earned for himself the image of a man who is not greedy and is not running after positions and power. Hence he is liked by many people for this image which is contrary to the majority of the leaders who are constantly lobbying for power and posts.
