Lucknow, July 18: For Shikha, daughter-in-law of Amethi-based trader Pawan Agrawal, Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the constituency came as a huge solace. After the protest by the locals against the power cut in the area on July 13, her house was allegedly raided by the police team.
Paranoid of the police atrocities, Sikha told Rahul, “I live in constant fear after the police raid. Please help me out.” To this, Rahul assured her that he would look into the matter.
On the other hand, Pawan said he had no grievances against the state government.
“But I fear the police. I demand a judicial probe into the incident,” said Agrawal. He claimed that although his son Vikky did not commit any crime, he was still taken into police custody.
Rahul also met the other victims who had allegedly been beaten up by the police. “He saw the X-Ray report. I also showed him the injury marks on my face,” said Malti Devi, a local.
Interestingly, the state government has already ordered for a magisterial probe into the incident.
Although Rahul gave a patient hearing to all the victims, he did not give any immediate solution. “He only heard our stories. I hope he would look into the incident,” said Krishna Devi.
During a meeting with the party workers, Rahul said: “I discussed about several projects with our power minister. We can get the electricity poles installed. But it is the task of the state government to ensure power generation.”
Rahul visited Salon, Tiloi, Munshiganj and Jagdishpur area of his constituency and met the party workers.
