Congress leader D. Sridhar Babu on Wednesday said the main purpose of party vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Telangana is to open the eyes of the ‘pro-industrialist’ NDA Government to the plight of the region’s farmers.
” Rahul Gandhi will be arriving at the international airport in the evening. It is not a road show at all. Basically, this visit is to address the needs of the farmers. He will stay at Nirmal overnight and tomorrow he will do the ‘padhyatra’. We are really happy. Our main objective is to open the eyes of the government. Every government faces the situation of farmers, but it depends on how a government resolves the issue,” Babu said.
“The politics is necessary in the democratic system to make things better. We want to enlighten the government that this government is only concerned about the industrialists. As an opposition party we should address it and we are addressing it,” he added.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka earlier said that Gandhi would be meeting family members of the farmers, who have committed suicide, during his visit to the state.
At least 700 farmers have killed themselves in Telangana due to agrarian distress. (ANI)
