Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi will on Saturday visit the family of two gang-rape victims in Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh.
The incident has evoked an outrage. The state police is facing flak for negligence in the case and the ruling Samajwadi Party is being criticised for failing to ensure safety in the state.
All the five main accused, including two policemen, have been arrested in connection with the gang-rape and murder of two Dalit sisters here.
The Uttar Pradesh government has promised to set up a fast-track court to punish the culprits.
The two girls, who were cousins and aged 14 and 15, went missing from their house on the night of May 27 and their bodies were found hanging from a tree the next morning.
The incident had triggered protests in the area with villagers alleging police apathy, following which an FIR was registered against seven persons.
The post-mortem report of the two girls confirmed they were raped before being murdered.
