New Delhi, August 19: Rahul Gandhi will be the guest of honour at a national workshop to be held here tomorrow to discuss ways for better implementation of schemes under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) in the country. The programme, ”NREGA: A step towards governance reform, transparency and accountability”, has been organised by the Ministry of Rural Development.
The event will also mark the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi, the ministry said. Several parliamentarians, social activists and other key stakeholders will attend the workshop, besides officials from the Centre and different states.
On this occasion, a formal announcement will be made about the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) entering into a partnership with the ministry of rural development to enlist the beneficiaries of NREGA in the first phase of the unique identification project of the Centre. UIDAI chairman Nandan Nilekani will be present in the programme, ministry said.
The workshop has come close on the heels of the need expressed by Minister of Rural Development C P Joshi for effective implementation of NREGA..
