Lucknow, Dec 01: The AICC general secretary and parliamentarian from Amethi, Rahul Gandhi, is likely to undertake a two-day tour of Uttar Pradesh next week to mobilise youths for the party.
The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) has started is membership drive across 26 Lok Sabha constituencies, which will conclude on December 9.
Party sources said although Rahul’s programme is still to be given a final shape, the probable dates of the visit could be December 7 and 8.
“The matter is in pipeline, right now I can only say he will visit UP very soon,” said Ashok Tanwar IYC’s national president and the MP from Sirsa, Haryana.
Rahul may visit at least nine constituencies where the membership drive is on, said party sources. These include Ambedkar Nagar, Kanpur, Sitapur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Faizabad and Etah.
“He may meet students of Kanpur University also,” a source said.
Rahul may also meet potential candidates who can be fielded by the party for the 2012 assembly elections. The Returning Officers appointed for the organisational elections of the Youth Congress are tasked with identifying potential candidates.
Since the ROs are not residents of UP, they will be free from local influences.
Party sources said the Youth Congress may extend the membership drive to reap the benefits of Rahul’s visit.
