Rahman to take a break in 2011 after string of flops

Mumbai, January 01: A.R. Rahman is a meticulous person. But he sure likes to keep his thoughts to himself.

So when someone asked him about his plans for 2011, he quipped that the best way to plan is to have no plans.

If rumours are to be believed, the music maestro will take a break in 2011 to replenish his creative juices.

“ The long break might do a wealth of good to Rahman’s creativity. But it’s causing panic attacks among Rahman loyalists in Bollywood, such as Ashutosh Gowariker, Mani Ratnam and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra who have constantly worked magic with Rahman,” says a source.

Rahman also has his fingers crossed for Danny Boyle’s latest film 127 Hours , which has put him in the race for the Academy Awards again. With his energies focused on the Oscars, desi filmmakers will have to wait for a while.

Rahman has had a bad run at home, of late. He was not appreci- ated for his work in Shankar’s Robot , Ratnam’s Raavan and in Abbas Tyrewala’s Jhootha Hi Sahi . Even the theme song for the Commonwealth Games received flak from all sides. So, a break seems almost mandatory for Rahman. It looks like it will be some time before we see a hit like Slumdog Millionaire from the maestro.
