Ajinkya Rahane”s maiden Test century, plus 98 from dashing opener Shikhar Dhawan and an, at times, impressive innings of 68 by captain MS Dhoni helped India post 438 and with it a potentially match-winning lead of 246. According to Stuff.co.nz, from the outset, New Zealand”s bowlers battled to penetrate and looking to limit their losses quickly became their main tactic, although they failed to help their side erase the deficit and post a dependable total even though three days are still left for the match to end.
Hamish Rutherford survived till stumps and will resume on Sunday on 18, while Kane Williamson (4), who is the other not out batsman, will need to bat for most of the third day if New Zealand wants to take the game into a fourth day, the report added. (ANI)
