Ragging punishable, ASP warns students

Hyderabad, June 12: Adilabad Assistant Superintendent of Police Tarun Joshi on Thursday warned that ragging by students outside the college premises also attracted the stringent penal sections of the AP Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1997. He said students who indulged in ragging of juniors can face problems even later in life once they are found to be guilty under this Act.

Mr. Joshi was speaking at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) on different aspects associated with the menace of ragging in colleges. He addressed the first batch of medicos who had entered second year currently and by that virtue became seniors to the freshers being admitted to the college now.

The ASP urged the college management to prominently display the text of the Act on a notice board for the benefit of students. He said the anti-ragging committee should keep tabs on the happenings within the hostels and other places in the premises.

RIMS Director Dr. Sriram B. Rathod, Town CI S. Bala Raju and SIs of One Town D.A. John Diwakar and Two Town K. Purushotham Reddy also participated. An audio-visual capsule on ragging issued by the government was displayed to the students.
