Radhika murder: One suspect detained

New Delhi, March 11: After groping in the dark for more than two days, Delhi Police are said to be close to achieving a major breakthrough in the Radhika Tanwar murder case.

Reports claimed on Friday that Delhi Police have detained a youth from Radhika’s neighbourhood in Naraina village -considered the prime suspect.

He is said to have been stalking Radhika and was once slapped by the 20-year-old girl, who also reported the matter to her family, following which he was beaten up by the girl’s family.

The police believe that the arrested youth must have killed Radhika for ‘avenging’ the humiliation, which he faced after he was slapped by Radhika and the treatment meted out to him by her family.

Interestingly, Radhika’ parents have been denying that their daughter was being stalked by anybody, but are now said to be cooperating with the Delhi Police in the solving the case.

Delhi Police sources have confirmed that the youth’s face matches with the sketch of the suspected killer released by the South Delhi Police soon after the broad day light murder of Radhika.

Another youth, also a resident of the Naraina village, was nabbed from Lodhi Colony. He is believed to have aided the prime suspect in killing Radhika.

The arrests were made after Delhi Police formed multiple special teams to nab the killer and deployed nearly 300 cops to search of the suspected killer.

Raids were conducted at various locations and the cops are said to be monitoring the movement of persons suspected in this case.

Radhika was a BA second year student of Ram Lal Anand College in South Delhi.

As per another report published in leading newspaper, Radhika had confided to one of her friends that she was being stalked.

According to one of the Radhika’s friend, Aditya, alias Kuldeep, the deceased received threat calls and was very disturbed.

Aditya told police that she was tensed about this and a similar incident had taken place two years ago, the report said.

Aditya and another classmate Sanjay Sharma were questioned by the police on Wednesday.

Delhi Police is expected to make a formal announcement in a press conference soon to clear the air as to who killed Radhika.

She was shot dead on March 08, while she was crossing the foot over-bridge near her college in Delhi University’s South Campus in Dhaula Kuan.

Residents, students stage protest

Amid increasing outrage over Radhika’s murder, the residents of her area staged a road blockade here today demanding immediate arrest of her killer.

Upset over alleged police “inaction”, residents staged a protest and blocked the Outer Ring Road in Naraina in west Delhi this morning. Students also held protests in various colleges demanding the arrest of the culprit.

BJP’s student wing ABVP has called for a two-day strike in Delhi University begining today to protest the incident and demand more security for students.
