New Delhi, February 12: Once again a radar console at the air traffic control tower of the IGI airport here went blank, in the fourth such incident within 30 days of the collapse of radar automation system, endangering the safety of air passengers.
“Once again the automation system of one of the radar console (monitor) went blank around 2.30 pm on Wednesday due to which the air traffic control officers could not get the details of an aircraft coming from the west and it took half-an-hour to restore the system,” a source said.
This is the first such incident this month and fourth in the past 30 days. On January 14, the radar automation system had collapsed, leading to disruption in flight movement. As the inquiry is still on, two more separate incidents of one or two radar screens going blank occurred on January 23 and 26.
