Race against print & electronic media, Harish tells PROs

“Public Relations Officers should adopt latest technologies to disseminate information spontaneously before electronic and Print media reach its targeted audience”, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao has said.

Inaugurating the first Telangana Public Relations conference conducted on “Bangaru Telangana and PR Communication Perspective” by PRSI’s Hyderabad Chapter at Best Western Ashoka Hotel in Lakdikapul here, Harish Rao expressed concern over failing to get feedback from the people on the schemes. Harish Rao said, “The Information department was using 20 years old technologies instead of adopting new ones. This wing has to change accordingly to ensure proper dissemination of schemes”, he said.

The minister also exhorted the PROs to opt for social media to surpass the electronic media’s news delivery in two hours and that of Print media next day. Adopting new technologies to disseminate the information, the PROs should focus on the main aim of the flagship programs or a project or a scheme, he said. With a change in mindset to merely writing what the ministers or VIPs talk during conferences, they must give gist of the theme to reach out to the people. Since the PROs have to bridge the government and media relations, they have to work more carefully, Harish Rao suggested.

Government Advisor K V Ramana Chary said the Information & Public Relations Department was like eyes and ears of the government. The information wing has to strengthen to play a pivotal role, he noted. PRSI president Dr C V Narsimha Reddy, MLC N Lakshman Rao, Government Advisor R Vidyasagar Rao, “Namaste Telangana” Editor, Katta Shekhar Reddy, Hyderabad Chapter president Dr J Chennaiah and others were present.
