New Delhi: Senior IPS officer Rupak Kumar Dutta, Special Director in CBI, was today appointed as Special Secretary (Internal Security) in Home Ministry against a newly-created post.
Dutta’s new assignment assumes significance as it comes barely days ahead of the appointment of new CBI Director to replace incumbent Anil Sinha, who retires on December 2.
Dutta was one of the contenders for the CBI chief post.
It is for the first time that two Special Secretaries would work in the Home Ministry for the crucial internal security division.
Besides him, M K Singla is already working as Special Secretary (Internal Security).
The Centre has approved upgradation of a Joint Secretary-level post in the Home Ministry and appointed Dutta as Special Secretary (Internal Security), an official order said.
Dutta has been appointed to the post till October 31, 2017 i.e the date of his superannuation, the order said.
