Hyderabad, January 26: On the occasion of Republic Day, the state government has decided to grant remission of sentence to 305 life convicts.
The remission of sentences came through a GO issued by Principal Home Secretary, B Acharya on Tuesday.
A committee had been constituted with Mr Acharya as its chairman to prepare the list of eligible prisoners and recommend it to the government for consideration.
The DGP and IG (prisons), sent a list of prisoners for remission, which after examination, the Principal Secretary recommended 305 life convicts for grant of remission.
In exercise of the powers conferred under article 161 of the Constitution, Governor ESL Narasimhan granted remission subject to a personal bond of Rs 50,000.
The prisoners will have to appear before the probation officer and the police station concerned every three months for five years from the date of release.
