The Qutb Shahi Tombs Complex which is said to be the only revenue-generating cluster of monuments in Telangana, has been left with only a few security guards following the division of employees working at the department of archaeology and museums.
As per the sources, there were 17 security personnel, sweepers and gardeners etc., who, along with five security guards all of whom belonged to Telangana.
But, due to “official bungling“, they fell victim to the 42:58 ratio of division, following which nine of them were at the appointed time transferred to the headquarters where they are made to sit idle. And the complex is left with eight personnel, of whom only four are available for duty.
In 1996, according to sources, the tombs complex was managed by 50 class IV and five class III employees., the complex was spread over 114 acres has no boundary wall on its north-west, because of which people have easy access to the area. There have been cases of red sanders and other trees being cut and people using the area to sip liquor.
The employees said that the division was carried out without seeking advice from them or checking the ground realities. “When both sides are unhappy, how can you call this a fair division,” quipped one of the employees.
