Mohd. Amanullah Khan, Convenor, Telangana Auto Drivers JAC today resigned from the committee and from general secretary post of Auto Driver Brothers Union following poor response to today’s one-day auto strike in the twin cities.
It may be mentioned here that the JAC gave one-day strike call demanding withdrawal of G.O. Ms. No. 90 granting 20,000 new auto permits, cancellation of police e-challan system, a permanent solution to the auto parking problem in the city and a total ban on the overloaded sharing autos plying illegally on city roads without operating the fare meters.
Khan, in a press statement admitted that there was in fact, poor response to today’s auto strike call which indicated that he lost confidence of auto drivers. Therefore, he felt that he has no moral right to continue as the leader. However, he thanked the auto drivers in the twin cities for their cooperation during the last 40 years in launching struggles, agitations for the drivers’ cause. (NSS)
