Question paper mix-up mars exam

Hyderabad, March 09: Confusion over the question papers of old and new syllabus continued to mar the Intermediate Public Examinations on the second day today. Students of the second year Intermediate, who appeared for the first exam, received old syllabus question papers at several examination centres.

The confusion has arisen due to revision of Intermediate syllabus in the current academic year. Officials at the Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) said the mix-up could not be ruled out in the case of 11 subjects for which syllabus was changed this year. The officials advised both the examination staff and students to check their question papers properly before getting down to answering them.

Intermediate syllabus is revised once in five years and the change is implemented in a phased manner. The syllabus was revised for first and second languages (Sanskrit) for Inter first year and civics, history, economics and commerce for the second year during the academic year 2010-11. “Hence, the students who are writing the exams for the first time will get question papers as per the new syllabus and those who are reappearing for previous years’ backlog subjects will get question papers as per the old syllabus,” said the authorities.

The officials apprehended recurrence of the mix-up of old and new syllabus question papers during English Paper-I on March 9, Civics Paper-II on 12, History Paper-II on 15, Economics Paper-II on 17, Commerce Paper-II and Sociology Paper-II on 21 and Public Administration Paper-II, Logic Paper-II, Geography Paper-II and Geology Paper-II on March 23.

The board officials said steps would be taken to ensure that students did not lose marks due to change in the question papers.
