Quake jolts northern areas of Pak

Rawalpindi/Peshawar(Pakistan) : Earthquake tremors were felt in parts of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab on Sunday afternoon.

Epicenter of the 7.1 magnitude quake was located at Koh Hindukash Region Afghanistan at depth of 236 kilometer, tweeted Radio Pakistan.

Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Swat, Chitral, Azad Jammu and Kashmir are among the affected areas, reports Dawn.

The tremors were also felt in parts of Afghanistan and India.

Residents rushed out of their houses for safety.

No loss of life has been reported so far.

Pakistan is located in the Indus-Tsangpo Suture Zone, which is roughly 200 km north of the Himalaya Front and is defined by an exposed ophiolite chain along its southern margin.

This region has the highest rates of seismicity. (ANI)
