Qazis should not solemnise Nikah where dowry is demanded

Aligarh: With the initiative of National Ulema Council, led by Mufti Khaled Hameed, an appeal is being made for the qazis not to solemnise Nikah in extravagant marriages or where dowry is being demanded. It is also being appealed to field a candidate in the election who is against evil and supports virtue.

District president National Ulema Council called on city mufti Khalid Hameed on Sunday and submitted a memorandum comprising of several demands. It suggested the foundation of an organisation to spread virtues and eradicate evils from the society. The memorandum consisted of 11 points.

City Mufti agreed all of them and formed an organisation named Social Reformation Society headed by Mufti Khaled Hameed. Several appeals were issued by the mufti including not to solemnise Nikah in extravagant marriages or where dowry is being demanded. The other objectives of the organisation include helping poor women, stopping corruption and preserving minority status of AMU.
