Qatar decries efforts to destabilize Iran ties

Tehran, July 06: Amid growing relations between Iran and Qatar, the Emir of Qatar Sheik Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani has lashed out at efforts aimed at destabilizing mutual ties.

Qatar will not allow anyone to damage relations between Tehran and Doha, al-Thani said in a meeting with the visiting Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani on Monday.

He added that Iran has always supported Arab nations and the oppressed Palestinian people in particular, Fars news agency reported.

Larijani, heading an Iranian delegation, arrived in Doha Sunday on an official two-day visit to hold talks with Qatari officials on the realms of mutual interest including regional issues and the developments in Palestine and Lebanon.

The Iranian parliament speaker said that Tehran and Doha are resolute to promote relations in political, economic and cultural fields.

“Iran and Qatar share common views on regional issues including the Gaza case and Israel’s attack on Lebanon,” he said.

Qatar has refused to follow in the footsteps of Washington and its Arab allies in the region particularly over the Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip, which killed over 1350 people and wounded thousands others including a large number of women and children.
