Purpose of education is to acquire knowledge & inculcate values: Pratibha Patil

Hyderabad, July 05: President, Pratibha Patil said that the purpose of getting education is to acquire knowledge and inculcate values and character so that India could be counted as the number one nation in the world.

She said that according to an estimate, India needs two lakh engineers and there is shortage of four lakh graduates in other areas. India also needs 1.5 lakh trained vocational personnel in various fields.

President Patil was addressing the students of Indian School of Business at Gachi Bowli, Hyderabad. She said that there is a need to develop infrastructure and to establish educational institutions in requisite numbers so that every child should get education. She said that by establishing universities and higher professional institutions, doctors, engineers, professors and technical experts will be produced and they will ensure quality education.

Applauding the exemplary efforts of the Indian School of Business, she said that it has formed a precedent how cumulative efforts could help produce business leaders for India. Renowned educationists, experts in various fields, and corporations have played a pivotal role in establishing this institution of international repute. Stressing the role of the educational institutions, she said that they should inculcate competitive spirit among their students to compete with world technology in every field.

Students should develop innovative talents which alone can bring about developments and changes in the world. She said if a society in the present day context changes then it becomes imperative that the educational system is also revamped. The function was attended by Chief Minister Mr. N. Kirna Kumar Reddy & Governor Mr. Narasimhan.
