The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday stated that the purpose of a coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir was not to attain power but to fulfill the development aspirations of the people.
“Today is a historic day. Despite the fractured mandate, the BJP and PDP have brought the people of all the regions of Jammu and Kashmir together by forming a coalition. The purpose of this coalition is not to come in power but fulfill the development aspirations,” said BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao .
Earlier in the day, PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was sworn-in as the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir while BJP leader Nirmal Singh took oath as the state’s deputy chief minister.
They were administered the oath of office by Governor NN Vohra at the General Zorawar Singh Auditorium in Jammu University.
The new government will end the 49-day Governor’s rule in the state.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah and party veteran L K Advani were among those who attended the ceremony. (ANI)
