The family members of fifteen Punjabi youths, who have been languishing in a jail in Abu Dhabi since November 30, met Rajya Sabha member Avinash Rai Khanna today and sought his intervention in this matter.
The youths, who had gone to Abu Dhabi in search of livelihood, have been imprisoned at Al Wathba jail there following a clash between two groups.
Majority of their parents came to know of their incarceration from their friends.
A deputation of parents of eight youths met the RS MP and urged him to use his office to get them released at the earliest.
Khanna told mediapersons that he has already taken up the issue with the Ministry of External Affairs.
He assured the family members that he would stress upon the Union government to constitute a special agency for dealing with problems of Indians living abroad.
He said that even earlier, many of the relatives of Indians living abroad had approached him for getting redressal of the problems of their kith and kin abroad.
