Punjab: Woman dragged out, thrashed with belt, punched by ‘Goons’ in broad day light

New Delhi: A woman in Punjab’s Muktsar region was brutally assaulted, thrashed by Congress Councilor Rakesh Chaudhary and his aides over money lending issue on 14 June, video of the brutal assault is now doing internet rounds.

The victim dragged out of her house and then whipped with a leather belt, punched and kicked by the men after she allegedly failed to repay Rs 23,000 she had borrowed from one of them PTI reported.

In the video that has gone viral shows the councilor and his aides beating the woman while the victim’s minor can be heard wailing in the background.

So far six people have been arrested in connection with the case confirmed the news agency.

The assault left the victim injured who is admitted in a civil hospital for undergoing treatment.

“This is an extremely unfortunate incident. We have arrested six people and will push for severe punishment. The victim is admitted to hospital,” ANI quoted Muktsar’s Senior Superintendent of Police, Manjit Singh Dhesi, as saying on Saturday.

The police have registered cases against arrested persons identified as Suresh Chaudhary, Roop Lal, Sunny Chaudhary, Guddi, Sekhu and Jebo, while four others — Rakesh Chaudhary, Hassan, Renu and Jyoti on the on the run under several charges, including attempt to murder.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh condemned the incident and said such acts of violence will not be tolerated.

“Accused in the video from Muktsar have been arrested by Punjab Police and booked for attempt to murder u/s 307 IPC. No one is above the law and such acts of violence will not be tolerated (sic),” he tweeted.
