Punjab Police arrest organizer of Gurdaspur eye camp

The Punjab Police on Saturday arrested the organizer of the eye camp where 16 persons lost their eyesight yesterday and sent him to judicial custody for two days.

“We have arrested and produced him before the court. He has been remanded into two days police custody. The concerned doctor has not been arrested as no evidence was found against him, the investigation is going on,” said Police Inspector Harkrishna Singh.

Earlier on Friday, Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda had asked for a report from the Punjab Government on the botched operations.

At least 16 senior citizens had lost their eye-sight after they allegedly underwent eye surgery at a free medical camp organized by an NGO on Friday. All the patients belonged to Amritsar.

The Punjab Government has ordered a high-level probe into the incident. (ANI)
