Punjab cabinet remembers Norman

Chandigarh, September 16: Punjab, the food bowl of the country today remembered American agricultural scientist Norman Borlaug whose research had helped the state in record production of wheat, rice and other crops. Remembering Borlaug during a resolution adopted by the Council of Ministers and chaired by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, they said the father of ”Green Revolution” was “a great visionary and a friend of farmers” who helped the nations to grow food across the globe.

“Punjab and its farming community would remain indebted to Borlaug in recognition of his immense contribution to high-yielding crop varieties and ushering agricultural innovations in the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) Ludhiana”, the resolution said. In another resolution, the government also expressed grief over the death of former chief minister Harcharan Singh Brar and described him as a “true statesman and a matured politician.

” A two-minute silence was also observed.
