Punjab to be power surplus state in 2013

Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today expressed confidence that the state government would be able to fulfill its major promise of making state power surplus in 2013. Inspecting the progress of construction at all three major plants at Talwandi Sabo, Goindwal Sahib and Rapura, Mr Badal fixed the inaugural dates of these thermal plants in 2013. Talwandi Sabo Power Ltd would start its first unit on Baisakhi, 2013, second unit in August 2013, third unit in December 2013. Similarly, Goindwal Thermal Plant would inaugurate its first unit in March 2013 and 2nd unit in May 2013 and Rajpura Thermal Plant would start operating its first unit on December 15, 2013 and second unit on Baisakhi 2014.

Mr Badal said Punjab would be the first state in country to add 3920 MW with combined cost of Rs 22000 crore in a single year. (Eds: Pick up suitable from earlier series) UNI
