An assistant sub-inspector of the Punjab Police has been shot dead by unknown people on the Jalandhar-Ludhiana highway.
According to reports, Gurdev Singh was shot at when he chased a white Verna car for not stopping when he asked it to at around midnight on Sunday.
Police have not identified the four-five people in the car as yet.
The incident came two day after Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ravinder Pal Singh Mangat on traffic duty during a VIP visit was allegedly assaulted by a truck driver and died later.
Mangat had signalled the truck to stop at the campus being constructed for the Rajiv Gandhi National Law University in Patiala. However, the truck driver did not stop. Mangat chased down the truck and stopped it, but was allegedly assaulted by the driver.
The ASI, who was injured, was taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead, police officials said.
