New Delhi [India], Dec. 29 (ANI): When there’s a confluence of your ‘within’ and the world outside, takes birth a ‘masterpiece’! So did artist Puneet Kaushik in his latest collection, titling it ‘Barren Red,’ exhibited at Gallery Espace, New Delhi.
With ‘ Barren Red’, Puneet seems to re-establish the vast geography lying within every human being and as we say, ‘beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder,’ it appeared to be different for every single person.
Using the form of abstract mixed media, the collection includes weaving, knitting, crochet and Tibetan bead work embellishment, with the colour red as an underlying element.
When asked about his work, Puneet said, “The aerial view of the territorial landscape in red is a perception of the future in this crazy world of terrorism. The unofficial or unauthorised use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims within the self…within boundaries and no boundaries. Like a river of blood as, the faith is flowing away from its core. The red that flows under all our skin trickles down to unaccommodating boundaries that divides and distinguishes the self within us.”
“Communal coming together of geographical and emotional yet territorial transformation of the scape. Like the openness of the sky and its constitution and the dots and structures of line, geometrical patterns …that we recreate on earth. Almost like filling up the dots in kolams and dot grids…” he added.
On the same note, although best known for his strong, abstract, primeval artworks, Puneet has engaged and worked closely with tribal crafts practitioners for almost two decades now. For him the nature of folk art is specific to its particular culture, which moves towards civilization yet, rapidly diminishing with modernity, industrialisation, and outside influence. (ANI)
