Pune blast: No intelligence failure, says Chidambaram

New Delhi, March 16: Government today said there was no intelligence failure as far as the Pune blast case is concerned. The Centre as well as the State Government had repeatedly issued specific warnings regarding the possibility of such incidents, Home Minister P Chidambaram informed Lok Sabha during Question Hour.

He said even the German bakery was also given such timely warning. The warning was written in Marathi and was received by the bakery manager but they did not pay any heed to that directive, Mr Chidambaram regretted.

He said so far as the question of setting up of NSG hubs is concerned, four such centres have already been set up in one each in the metro cities and one Para Military unit has been upgraded at Bangalore.

Responding to a question on modernisation of the State police forces to effectively combat terrorists, he said the Centre has already issued directive in this matter and accordingly half a dozen State Governments have already taken up the job of setting up of special force for that purpose In response to a question on Bullet Proof jackets, the Minister said the Centre has issued new directives for the purchase of bullet proof jackets. Based on that criteria the Centre is planning to place its order for the procurement of such jackets. The State Governments could also place their orders for the same with the Centre to avoid the lengthy process of tendering and vendor selection and that also help them in procuring these items much earlier, he added.
