Puducherry: Primary students generate power using Drainage water

Puducherry: Innovation comes from all sizes big or small but the bright young minds of this generation are turning innovative to turn their odds and change their future into something credible.

Two primary students of a Government School in Kalitheerthalkuppam village in Puducherry have with little help from their teachers have built a micro-generator to produce electricity.

According to the sources the two girls T Mithra and K Sharani Priya, both Class V students were on a visit to the Puducherry Science Centre and Planetarium with their school including teachers and classmates when they came across drainage water flowing steadily near the Kurunji Nagar Modern Park.

The two students on returning have thought about the flow of the water and experimented with their teachers assistance.

They measured the length and breadth of the drain and calculated the speed of flowing water. A 3-inch radius turbine was built then.

The experiment could successfully generate power between 8v and 9v which can be used to charge cell phones, glow LED lights along with playing radio.
