Bangalore, January 18: This tech hub, also known as India’s pub-city, is all set for microbrewing for a pint of fresh beer as about 40 licences to set up microbreweries in bars and hotels will be issued soon, it was announced here Tuesday.
“The government hopes to make around Rs.50 million from these licences in a year,” Karnataka Excise Minister M.P. Renukacharya told reporters.
Each microbrewery will be permitted to produce up to 200,000 litres of beer per year.
Renukacharya said Karnataka will be the third state after Maharashtra and Haryana to allow microbreweries.
The government earned revenue of Rs.7,100 crore in 2009-10 financial year from liquor sales in the state. In 2010-11 fiscal ending March 31, the revenue is expected to cross Rs.8,000 crore.
