PTI trashes reports of Chaudhry Nisar meet with party members

Islamabad : The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has denied reports of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar of meeting top officials, including party chief Imran Khan.

In a statement, the PTI spokesperson dismissed such claims and termed it as “baseless”, the Express Tribune reported.

“We have no intentions of calling on him. PTI chief Imran Khan had his hands full with a membership drive in Rawalpindi. He returned home after. The party spokesperson said former PTI secretary general Jehangir Tareen was also present alongside Khan over the membership drive. PTI vice-president Shah Mehmood Qureshi is in Multan. There has been no meeting between them either,” the spokesperson said.

There have been wide speculations on Nisar joining the PTI, as he has repeatedly expressed public discontentment with the ruling PML-N party, especially on former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s confrontational statements between the judiciary and armed forces. Imran and other party members have publicly invited Nisar to join his party.

On Saturday, a PML-N leader named Ramesh Kumar joined the PTI, citing reservations over Sharif’s ‘controversial statements and politics’. He made a formal announcement urging Nisar to join the Imran Khan led-party soon.

The PTI is rallying support for the general elections that are scheduled to be held later this year. (ANI)
