P. S. Rao, IFS (Retired) Expert Member, National Green Tribunal, Central Zone Bench, Bhopal is transferred to South Zone Bench, Chennai with effect from March 23, 2015. South Zone comprises jurisdiction over Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Pondicherry and Lakshadweep.
He joined as member of the National Green Tribunal in the year 2012 after retirement from IFS of Andhra Pradesh cadre. Initially he was at the Principal Bench at Delhi before posted to the Central Zone at Bhopal.
The National Green Tribunal deals with effective and expeditious disposal of cases relating to environmental protection and conservation of forests and other natural resources including enforcement of any legal right relating to environment and giving relief and compensation for damages to persons and property and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
All the cases pertaining to Environmental Clearance and Forest Clearance for various projects and industries and the issues relating to pollution come under the jurisdiction of the National Green Tribunal. Appeal on the orders of the National Green Tribunal lies with the Supreme Court of India. (NSS)
