Hyderabad, January 07: Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) MLA Eravat Anil Kumar, who represents Balkonda Assembly segment in Nizamabad district, today faced embarrassment and had to leave Indira Park, the venue of JAC’s dharna, when Telangana activists tried to manhandle him. He left the place with police escort.
The dharna was organised by T-JAC protesting against the Srikrishna Committee report. Leaders of all the JAC constituents, including TRS, BJP, CPIML New Democracy and Banswada MLA Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, who recently quit the TDP, attended the protest programme.
When Anil Kumar was about to occupy a chair on the dais, some youths protested his presence since the PRP is committed to united AP. Disregarding the MLA’s plea that he was committed to Telangana, youths kept raising slogans against him demanding that he should leave the place immediately. They asked him to resign and then come to the meeting.
When some activists attacked him with their footwear, the MLA decided to leave the place unable to bear the humiliation. As the police tried to take him away, some ran after him, threatening to thrash him. Some others tried to beat him with sticks but were prevented by the police.
Even TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao couldn’t control the youths.
Meanwhile, the attack on Anil Kumar took a caste turn with various BC organisations taking a strong exception to it. They demanded that JAC convener M Kodandaram condemn the attack and also give an explanation to people on the incident. They said Anil was attacked only because he hailed from a BC community and upper castes were trying to show their upperhand in the Telangana movement.
