PRP closes shop in Kurnool district

Kurnool, January 04: The Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) activists in the district rose to a rude shock on the first day of the New Year. The distirct office received formal orders that the monthly rent for the building will not be paid and hence lock the doors.

Never did the party activists think that the newly-launched party would popularity within just a year.

The party office was inaugurated in a grand manner 100 feet away from the Congress office in Kurnool on November 2, 2008. The Fans Associations of mega star and PRP founder Chiranjeevi and his brother Pavan Kalyan led by party district convener Bhuma Nagi Reddy attended the programme.

The activities of the party were held in the building rented for Rs 22,000 per month. Everything went on smoothly till 2009 general elections.

But post-polls, not even a single leader visited the office.

Senior activists stopped coming to the office while the office secretary, manager and staff used to visit it once in five days.

However, the district party office received the rent and other expenditure from the State party office till June, 2009.

The trouble started from August when monthly rent was not paid. And the owner began cutting it from the money deposited with him which lasted till October.

Since then, the party office and owner of the building have been waiting for the rent and just a few days ago, they received a DD for Rs 22,000.

Later, the party State office told the district office staffers, on phone, that rent will not be sent for the building from now onwards even while it owes rent of one more month to the owner.

Speaking to this paper, one of office staff said they have received a phone call asking them to shut the office. We have locked the office and informed the owner about the news, the staffer said.

When asked about where would party meetings be held if there is no office, the staffer quipped where was the necessity for an office when there were no leaders or activits.
