PRP cannot be wished away, it’s in people’s hearts:Chiranjeevi

Hyderabad, August 20: Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) President Chiranjeevi today asserted that none could erase his party from the political map of the state and from the hearts of the people.

The party had carved a niche for itself in the hearts of the poeple and none could uproot the party flag as reported in a section of the media, a visibily upset Chiranjeevi told a press conference here.

Upset with reports that PRP was planning to merge with the ruling Congress, the actor-turned-politician denied any such move and said he had entered politics to usher in a “new political culture” of playing a constructiive role.

He lamented that some leaders who had left the party had been projected “out of proportion” by a section of the media with vested interests. Upset at the description of PRP as a ”small party”, the actor- turned politician retorted by recalling the BJP with only two MPs had grown to assume power at the Centre later. Can the TDP which had been reduced to only 46 MLAs in the last Assembly be called a small party. The Congress, a national party, had only 26 MLAs in the state assembly once, he also pointed out.

It may be recalled that senior PRP leader T Devender Goud, who had merged his Nava Telangana Party floated after quitting the TDP, had returned to the party. Close on his heels, another PRP leader T Sitaram, who had quit TDP on the eve of the last Lok Sabha and State assembly elections, had also returned to the TDP.
