PRP approves merger with Congress

Hyderabad, February 10: The Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) on Wednesday formally endorsed its chief K Chiranjeevi’s decision to merge the party with the Congress. The party’s State and district committees and Legislature Party, at a meeting here, adopted a single-line resolution approving the merger. Two dissident MLAs, Sobha Nagi Reddy and Katasani Ramireddy, were conspicuous by their absence at the meeting held at the residence of Chiranjeevi.

The star had met with his legislators upon his return from Delhi on Tuesday. Notwithstanding, this morning’s meeting, the merger process is likely to take some more time. “We need a month to complete the process,” Chiranjeevi told reporters.

To make the merger an “historic” event, Chiranjeevi has planned a massive public meeting in Coastal Andhra along with Congress leaders. The venue and date for the same will be finalised soon.

“It will be held after we are through with the formalities,” Chiranjeevi said, adding, “I will transform myself into a full-fledged Congress leader only after the meeting.”
