Provision of anticipatory bail to be revived in UP

Lucknow, May 10: The Uttar Pradesh government has agreed, in principle, to revive the provision of anticipatory bail with certain amendments, as incorporated in the criminal procedure code (CrPC) 1973.

Advocate General of Uttar Pradesh, Jyotindra Misra gave this assurance today before the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court hearing a PIL seeking direction for revival of the provision in the state.

A division bench comprising acting Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court Amitava Lalla and Justice Shabeehul Hasnain disposed of the PIL following the statement of the AG.

Misra assisted by the chief standing counsel D K Upadhya also informed the court that the committee constituted for considering the issue (enforcement of the said provision) has filed its report and soon it would be placed before the cabinet for approval.
