Hyderabad, April 02: E-healthcare can be propagated through sensorenabled mobile devices as it can reduce travel time and help save lives in case of emergencies, according to A P J Abdul Kalam, former president.
Speaking on ‘Web for societal transformation’ at the four-day 20th International World Wide Web conference here on Wednesday, he urged all the stakeholders to provide useful information to pubic using 3G and 4G technologies and that it can be a reality with concerted efforts in research.
“The future of the web is going to shift from connecting the corporate to connecting the individual in rural societies,” Kalam said adding that all money transactions and micro payments done through mobile devices have to be secure.
He went on to suggest that mobile phones can be transformed into personal authentic devices.
Kalam also touched up on the perils of the internet stating that there was still a dearth of content for a keen researcher. “Parents too are worried about the undesired angles of posting private details in a public domain,” he said and urged the internet community members within the country to come up with a comprehensive world wide web survey covering six lakh villages across the country.
“Effective measures should be taken to increase and double its impact in the next three years,” he said.
On the other hand, the increasing penetration of mobile phones can be utilised as a unique platform to reach out to the masses with content delivery in native languages.
“The world will look how a mobile device can provide integrated solutions.
This means, a fisherman in the sea will be in a position to get advance information about the sea wave condition and location of abundant fish.
Similarly, for a farmer, prices of agricultural produce at various markets across the country and also its demand can be known,” he said.
Though the service availability may be limited, the internet and web 2.0 and 3.0 combination would enhance the internet services in native languages, he opined.
