To prove his love, 25-year-old man shoots himself

Pune, Dec 15: The body of a 25-year-old man, who shot himself to show he could die to prove his love for a girl, was found at his residence at Mal Ali in Lohegaon on Monday morning. A suicide note reveals that the man, Abhijit Vijay Talekar, loved a girl. He had married her two years ago but as her parents were against the marriage, she left him and married another man, preliminary investigations reveal.

The police have recovered a country-made revolver with a live cartridge near the body. They are trying to find where he had got the revolver.

The police said that, Abhijit, whose mother had passed away a few years ago and whose father died six months back, was living at Lohegaon with his grandmother. His stepmother Jayshree Talekar lives nearby.

Jayshree said she was not aware when and how he shot himself. Abhijit’s grandmother was not present in the house when the incident took place. On Monday morning, Jayshree asked her son to wake up Abhijit. Around 9 am, Jayshree’s son found Abhijit dead in his grandmother’s house, police said. A bullet had passed through Abhijit’s neck.

Abhijit was unemployed but used to return home late in the night, said Jayshree.

Police quizzed his friends and relatives. It was revealed that he was frustrated. The suicide note mentions that he was killing himself to show he could die to prove his love. “Abhijit has also written that he was addicted to liquor and hence was not the right husband for the girl.

The note says his best wishes would always be with the girl,” said police sub inspector Y G Nikam, the investigation officer.
